The Supreme Court
It is the highest court of justice in the country having the original, appellate, advisory, writ and revisory jurisdiction. It hears the matters between the Government of India and one or more states and hears the appeal arising against the order passed by the High Court in all civil, criminal and constitutional cases. Further, the Court hears the matters in which the interest of the public is involved at large and the Court can be moved by any individual or group of persons either by filing a Writ Petition at the Filing Counter of the Court or by addressing a letter to Hon'ble the Chief Justice of India highlighting the question of public importance for invoking this jurisdiction.
The High Court has various jurisdictions to try the cases– appellate, original, revisional, and writ. It is one of the few High Courts in India where original civil cases (e.g. injunction, partition, recovery suits, commercial disputes, intellectual property rights disputes, arbitration cases etc.) are decided. Cases, to be tried, have to be of value exceeding Rs. 2 Crores. Appeals from the orders and judgments of single Judges in such cases are decided by Division Benches. Other appeals against orders and judgments of District Courts are assigned to Division Benches and in some instances single Judges.
