PREAMBLE

An Act for the forfeiture to Government of deposits made on incomplete sales of land under1Regulation 8, 1819 2*

WHEREAS patnidars {The words "and judgment- debtors," repealed by section 2 and Schedule I, Part I, ibid. } fraudulently avail themselves of the {The provision referred to repealed by section 1 of the present Act. } provision in section 9, Regulation 9, 1819, of the Bengal Code {The words and figures "and in section 5, Act 4, 1846," repealed by Act 12 of 1891, section 2 and Schedule I, Part I. } that forfeited deposits at sales of land {The words "in Execution of decrees or" repealed by section 2 and Schedule I, Part I, ibid. } for arrears of rent shall be applied as if they were purchase- money;

It is enacted as follows:-

Section -1 Repeals

Repealed by the Repealing Act, 1870 (I4 of 1870), section 1 and Schedule Part II.

Section -2 Application of forfeited deposits

Any such forfeited deposit shall be applied to defray the expenses of the sale, and the surplus shall be forfeited to Government.
